Dear friends of
the Open Book Program,
Thanks for all your votes during the Chicago Sun-Times Charity Trust's Sun Shine Project. The final have been made yet, and unfortunately Open Book Program was not one of the programs selected for a Sun Shine Project grant.
We are, however, in the process of applying for a regular Sun-Times Charity Trust grant, as well as several other types of grants.
Thanks also to all those who donated during the Institute for Positive Living’s annual Holiday Giving Drive. Those of you who opened your hearts and your checkbooks, credit cards, etc. and donated are helping Open Book Program continue it's valuable work of inspiring children to love to read.
We are continuing to collect donations and appreciate any support you can give. Just click on the donation link on this page.
Remember, Current research shows that teaching to the test does not work. Reading scores in the Chicago Public School System have not budged, despite all that teaching to the test. Independent evaluation of the Open Book Program by Prism Community Institute shows that our participants consistently show improvements in reading scores and skills. Why? We believe that children who love to read will succeed at reading. Children who love to read are interested in reading—and that makes them better readers.
That's our formula
and IT WORKS!
Your donation will make sure that our Open Book Program continues to help kids love to read so they can take charge of their lives. Research shows that children who succeed at reading in elementary school go on to succeed in high school, and then on to succeed in college or trade school. They become productive adults who give back to society.
Thank you for your generosity.
